Description

This was take during the last Family Day at RAF Cottesmore.. It shows the BBMF's Supermarine Spitfire PR XIX.. (Of note is the current World Record for altitude for a Piston Aircraft is held by one of these.. Its a staggering 51,550 feet!) This is currently undergoing restoration..

The Sabre is the oldest known airworthy example.. Its a F-86A.. This is now based in the U.S. and they have crashed it.. Luckily not seriously..

Both the Mustang and this the Sabre were powered by British engines in this case a license built G.E. J47 developed by Vickers in the UK. The list of aircraft that used this engine is most impressive..

Just small useless points of interest for you there..

Besides the Spit and especially the Saber have always been two of my Fav's.
